RESEARCH LOGS
CAPSTONE RESEARCH REFLECTION 1
I was a bit excited about the research because the topic I chose has potential. I had the same feeling when I was doing research and preparing for a TED Talk during my junior year. However, I am genuinely nervous about presenting in front of an audience that is more than one person. Nevertheless, when I discovered that I would only share my findings with a small group of my classmates, I felt a mix of relief and disappointment. Not because I needed to alter my script and presentation slides’ style, as they were already designed for a large audience. After the group presentation, I understood why I chose this kind of topic.
For me the topic has potential when people think that they know about this topic, and I can change their mind, even a few degree. The same TED Talk - I was criticizing democracy. I don't want to present and inform about some safe ideas, but at the same time I don't want to introduce completely new or really niche ideas. But the methods of introducing are also important; just quoting some strong words is not the way to change people's minds. They need to find a connection with it, that's why I want to use some regular life, pop-culture, or common knowledge examples as an evidence.
